The Practice of Seeing
An 8-Week Guided Photography Cohort with Alex Kilbee
Start Date: Saturday, 3rd May 2025 | Limited to 12 Participants
A Message from Alex
Do you ever wonder why you take the photos you do—or wish you could see the world through your lens with more clarity and purpose? The Practice of Seeing is for photographers who want to move beyond technical skills and pretty pictures, toward images that reflect who they are and what they feel.
This isn’t a rigid course with a heavy workload. It’s a shared, thoughtful journey over 8 weeks—long enough to spark real change, light enough to fit into your life.
Together, with a small group of 12, we’ll explore how you see, refine your creative compass, and build a practice that’s uniquely yours. Whether you shoot digital or film, beginner or seasoned, this is about growth through reflection, discussion, and intention.
Program Schedule
- Start Date: Saturday, 3rd May 2025
- Duration: 8 weeks (2 months)
- Weekly Live Sessions: Saturdays at 5:00 PM (UK time) | 1-1.5 hours
- Assignments: Three total, one every 2-3 weeks
- Mid-Term Break: No sessions on 24th or 31st May
- Resumes: Saturday, 7th June
- Final Session: Saturday, 5th July
What to Expect
- Weekly Round-Table Discussions: A small, engaged group (max 12) shares and critiques work in a supportive, classroom-style setting. We’ll rotate focus, ensuring everyone’s voice is heard—whether you’re vocal or naturally reserved.
- Three Flexible Assignments: Spaced every 2-3 weeks, these are designed to deepen how you see—not to pile on pressure. Examples might include capturing light as emotion, distilling a story into one frame, or reimagining the everyday. Shoot new images or draw from your archives; film or digital, it’s your choice.
- Community & Reflection: Expect diverse perspectives from photographers worldwide (often 40+, US/EU-based), all united by a passion for meaningful work. Weekly check-ins keep the momentum, even with a lighter load.
- Recordings & Catch-Up Support: All sessions are recorded. If life gets in the way (e.g., illness), we’ll help you stay on track—or shift you to the next cohort if needed.
This Is for You If…
- You want to uncover the why behind your photography and express it more clearly.
- You’re eager to refine your ability to “see” and feel compositions that resonate.
- You’d value a space to discuss your work—and others’—with a curious, constructive group.
- Whether new to photography or decades in, you’re ready to grow at your own pace.
- You seek a balance of inspiration, feedback, and quiet accountability.
No rigid experience level is required—just a sound grasp of basics (e.g., exposure, composition) and a willingness to explore.

Questions?
Here’s what others have asked:
- Film shooters are welcome. Yes, use new shots or your archives; it’s about the process, not the pace.
- Too introverted for discussions? We’ll ensure a space where everyone contributes at their comfort level.
- What’s the goal? To help you see, feel, and create with intention—guided by your own compass.
